Human Milk Bank Mission

Home / Human Milk Bank Mission

Rotary Tirupati Human Milk Bank is a pioneering initiative dedicated to providing safe, pasteurized donor human milk to premature, underweight, and medically vulnerable newborns. Established at Government Maternity Hospital, Tirupati, the milk bank operates with advanced neonatal care standards, medical supervision, and fully equipped pasteurization and storage facilities.

This initiative was developed in collaboration with Rotary and leading healthcare experts to ensure that no newborn is deprived of mother’s milk when their own mother is unable to breastfeed due to medical, physiological, or postpartum complications. By supporting NICUs, maternity wards, and healthcare institutions across the region, the Human Milk Bank plays a life-saving role in reducing infant mortality and improving neonatal health outcomes.

Our Purpose

To ensure that every newborn receives the life-saving benefits of human milk, especially when their mother is unable to lactate temporarily or is medically unavailable.

Mother’s milk plays a vital role in preventing infections, NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitis), sepsis, respiratory complications, and supports faster recovery and immunity—making it critical for premature infants.

What We Do

  • Collect donated breast milk from screened, healthy lactating mothers

  • Process & Pasteurize using certified medical protocols

  • Store in medical-grade freezers to maintain nutrient integrity

  • Distribute donor milk to NICUs, hospitals, and infants in need

  • Support Mothers through lactation counselling and breastfeeding awareness programs

Ethical and Safe Practices

We follow strict guidelines set by healthcare authorities and pediatric associations to ensure:

  • No commercial transactions — milk is donated, not sold
  • Transparent screening and documentation
  • Rigorous microbiological testing and quality checks
  • Cold-chain maintained at every stage
  • Medical approval mandatory for milk distribution
